Urgence Marine

Although the majority of marine pollution originates from land, a significant amount of pollution still originates from marine transportation.

Marine pollution from ships can come from various sources, notably accidental and operational pollution. Accidental pollution may result from the loss of cargo and/or fuel during a storm, ship flooding, a collision, or minor accidents occurring onboard the ship. Operational pollution results from the discharge of waste generated onboard the ship such as garbage, grey water, contaminated bilge water, water from tank cleaning, engine exhaust gas, and tank ventilation emissions.

In Canada, regulations have been put in place to reduce the pollution of shipping lanes (canals, rivers) and oceans. However, it is important to implement preventative measures such as emergency recovery and response services to reduce the chances and severity of a spill.

These preventative measures require the acquisition of very specialized equipment as well as high training standards for personnel. UME – Urgence Marine Environment is proud to provide such services at the highest quality in our region, which meet and exceed the numerous governmental standards, Canadian and abroad.
